Social Networking: A Means for Self-Promotion?

A short time ago someone I know said to me “If you are not on Facebook, you essentially don’t even exist.” Recently I have seen myself wanting to agree with them. Social network sites give you an understanding into what your buddy’s and work mates are doing. It is almost hopeless to keep in contact otherwise.

Going on these type of websites isn’t just about touching base and keeping up with your mates and acquaintances lives. Promoting yourself and promoting your product is another point of these sites as many real estate agents have found out. Newspaper adverts, Leaflets and Billboards are ‘old hat’ and businesses need to move with the times. Using and publicizing on the internet is now the way to go. If you browse the internet, you will find lots of articles with tips on how to use, and promote yourself, on social networking sites.

For older individuals who were not brought up with computers, it’s hard to get used to using computers and to find their way round websites. For the older person it is going to take time to learn, whereas youngsters seem to know how to do it naturally. We stick with it and try our best to master it all. I don’t accept it’s just me that feels like that and a few of my fellow realtors are finding it just as difficult.

After an exhausting day full of work, driving, telephone calls, meetings and checking out houses, we come home and even if we are extremely shattered, we check out the real estate news, try to find appeling topics and write a couple of articles for our blogs, post something on facebook or twitter. But, saying that it’s does become a part of our daily routine. Relax now means going on-line to get our social networking job completed. But does the population really think about what we discuss? For all the effort we put into our articles and posts, are only fellow realtors reading it? Regrettably that is not a question any of us have the reply to?

Personally because the reports are of interest to me, I do read and look at the websites of my fellow real estate representatives. For someone who is not involved in the property market, I really couldn’t say whether these articles would be of any interest. A great asset of all this is that even if I do not see my colleagues often, I feel like I know them, I know about their lives and opinions just from looking through their blogs and posts. I know now more about individuals that I haven’t chatted to for ages due to the internet and the social network websites. What a brilliant idea social networking is.

As a real estate agent I market Toronto Condos, and I consider social networking to be one of the key ways of success. I hope this little article was of any help for you!
